Forest – the key to staying productive in a distracting world.

In an age of social media addiction it can sometimes be really hard to tear ourselves from our phones and get work done. This is were Forest comes in! Forest is a cute and very useful app! The idea behind forest is super simple, you basically choose how long your want to limit yourself from your device then you plant a virtual tree seedling. If you manage stay off your device for limit you set then your tree will be beautifully grown up and it will be added to your forest. If you fail to stay off your device then your tree dies and the dead tree is added to the forest.

The more you use the app the more powerful it becomes. As your forest gets bigger and bigger you start to care more about its looks and a dead tree would ruin the aesthetic so you try super hard not to kill any trees. Forest even has a store where you can use your credits earned from growing trees to buy different tree species. This spices the game up and allows you to add your own flare.

Forest also incorporates a social network. You can invite and add new friends to the app. Your friends are able to see your forest and your stats. This can be really useful if you have friends that care about your self development as they can keep and eye on you and make sure you are managing your time well. This feature also allows for a “Dine with friends” option. If selected ,your friends will be able to join in on your current tree. This is great if you’re at a dinner and need to get everyone off their phone. This feature also proves useful at group study sessions as everyone can then work together without distraction.

In this day and age I find forest extremely useful for minimising distractions and allowing me to sit down and focus. I would highly recommend that you give it a try. You can find it on the IOS App Store or the Google Play Store.
